My Favorite Bands 3.0

Hello there you lego titans of suburbia. Today I decided it’s time to update my favorite bands list!

You may be surprised at who tops the list! Probably not though.

10. Wu Fei – The only person on this list who I have actually met and worked with, Wu Fei plays the guzheng and makes music with it that I find very relaxing ususally. Though some of the songs from her first album (A Distant Youth) are dissonant-ish, most of them are great for easy listening.

Favorites Summer Palace, Three Kingdoms

9. Portugal. The Man – Pulling up into the ninth slot on the strength of my favorite singles by them, Feel It Still and Atomic Man, Portugal. The Man is regardless of it’s position on this list, one of my favorite rock bands.

Favorites: Feel It Still, Atomic Man

8. Green Day – I had some trouble ordering Green Day, Cage the Elephant, and Aaron Embry correctly. Though Green Day ended up in the lower parts of the list, don’t be discouraged! They have created some truly great songs. According to me at least.

Favorites: Revolution Radio, Basket Case, When I Come Around

7. Cage the Elephant – This band has a talent for creating songs that I love xD

Favorites: Cigarette Daydreams, Come a Little Closer

6. Aaron Embry – I discovered Aaron by accident, tapping through related artists, but I’m very glad that I found him. He has only released one album on Spotify, but it’s filled with folk guitar-y stuff. He also released an album that didn’t make it to Spotify, on Bandcamp, which was just as good.

Favorites: Tiny Prayers, Moon of the Daylit Sky

5. Twenty One Pilots – You may be very shocked right now. Last time, Twenty One Pilots topped the list, you say. How did it fall all the way down to the half mark, you ask. Well the simple answer is listening to them to much. While I don’t really dislike any of the songs, I just listened to them over and over for a few months. I do like the songs, i’m just still sick of their music now. Hopefully I will like their new album whenever it comes out.

Favorites: I still do like Heavydirtysoul!

4. My Chemical Romance – The fuel for this band rising higher on the list is mainly their album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. I like their last album, The Black Parade, a lot as well, but I just love the songs from Three Cheers.

Favorites: To The End, Thank You For The Venom

3. Cake – Cake makes some pretty sweet songs!

Favorites: I Will Survive (Cover), Opera Singer, Stickshifts and Safetybelts

2. Gorillaz – Even though I was a little bit disappointed in their comeback album (Humanz), it still had enough songs I could enjoy to keep me interested in the band. I love almost every song by them in all the other albums (aside from The Fall, which although bad, wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be, considering it’s production). If you look up my favorite albums in the little search bar thingy on Rileys Backpack, you will find that Gorillaz albums dominated the list. On the subject of my favorite albums, they will probably be updated in a post next week.

Favorites: Sleeping Powder, Every Planet We Reach is Dead, Starshine

1. Watsky – There are a lot of great musicians and bands on this list, but by my preferences, Watsky beats all of them. I love all of his albums, and I highly recommend listening to some of his songs.

Favorites: all of them

Thanks for reading this moderately long post I’ve written! If you want more music based stuff, like the before mentioned updated favorite albums list, like the post 😀

If you want to, leave a comment telling me your favorite musicians/bands!

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #18

Hello there you post-apocalyptic kitties. Today is Wednesday so therefore it’s time for another Free Lunch. If you don’t know what that means, basically I just type for five minutes, whether it be on a computer or my phone. It’s on a computer this time though, so you’ll have more words to read!

I’ll start at 10:47.

Last night I was working on a new piano song, which I really like. It feels like a video game boss theme to me, but I was thinking I could improve it more before uploading it. I am now in a computer lab and people beside me are reading what I type at this very second. Hello Nana.

I’m listening to Gorillaz’s Demon Days right now, which never fails to be awesome. You can read my Top 10 Favorite Albums here if you want some more awesome albums, or at least in my humble opinion. I just finished big Math and ELA tests. Hello Sidney.

I don’t know if my band teacher is here today, and this troubles me, to say the least. Whenever she is not here, we usually get herded off into the gym. Hopefully, she just got here late, and I didn’t see her this morning. This reminds me of what I was just talking about above, so here is a poll!

My time is up over a minute, so that’s the end of this post.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this :3

Free Lunch #16

Hello there you carnivals of carnivorous cats. Can I get an illustration on that from anyone xD

(IF YOU ACTUALLY DO SEND IT TO totallyrileysbackpack@gmail.com :D)

Today is Free Lunch #16. If you don’t know what that means, basically I try to type for 5 minutes without stopping. I usually do this on my phone, but i’m on my laptop this time so expect more words.

I’ll start at 9:00.

Right now I am listening to the song Carnival from Gorillaz’s new album, Humanz. It’s one of my favorites from the album (or at least in the top ten), and it’s the way I got my interesting intro for today.

Today I feel like I stayed busy doing pretty much nothing important. In ELA, we worked on our poems and songs, and I’ve already finished both of those, so I just sat around doing math for almost an hour and a half. Though I was pretty lazy and probably only did about a half hour’s worth of work :/

As you may have noticed, I changed the tagline of the site from “jamie come up with a tagline” to “Everything is Relative”. However, I came up with the tagline, not Jamie. If you’re reading this Dad, know that one of your favorite quotes made it to the tagline.

Earlier while I was on the computer doing something close to nothing in ELA, I saw that our Publicize followers counted as real followers! On the website, for the follower count, instead of what should be 360, it says 379, which were added from Twitter. I was unaware that Twitter followers made an actual impact on my follower count.

In music news, I have been polishing up a few tracks, and you should see a video come out on my channel called “E-Jazz” within the next week or so. When it does, i’ll make a post so that you don’t have to go to the channel itself.

My time is up, and I hope you liked the post. If you did then like the post.

Thanks for reading all the way down to this *relatively* long Free Lunch :3

My Top 10 Favorite Albums

Hello there you superior Rainbow Monkeys.

Today i’m going to be giving you my favorite albums at this moment in time, and why I like them.

10. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance – Before I am torn to shreds by a few certain people *cough you know who you are*, I want to remind you that just because this album placed 10th on my list, it is in no way bad in any way. Remember, everything is relative, this is still in the top ten albums I’ve ever listened to. One of the reasons for that is because it was the first full album by MCR (My Chemical Romance) that I listened to, and it got me hooked.

9. A Distant Youth by Wu Fei – This is one of my favorite albums to sit down and just unwind and loosen up to after a busy day. The only reason I was able to find the album in the first place was that Wu Fei actuslly visited my school and performed on the Guzheng for all of the band students. It was an awesome experience and you could live a little bit of it by listening to this album!

8. Gorillaz by Gorillaz – Although this album produced some amazing singles that have turned out to be some of my favorite songs (Clint Eastwood, Rock the House, Tomorrow Comes Today etc.), I just don’t connect with all of the songs. However, I am in no way saying thay the album is bad, but it sounds more like a mixtape than an album. But still amazing.

7. Cardboard Castles by Watsky – I really adore almost every song from this album, and I think it all just fits together perfectly. Watsky’s ability with rapping and spoken word is just astounding. If you have time, lots of his spoken word is on Youtube, and I advise you listen to them.

6. Blurryface by Twenty One Pilots – This was the first Twenty One Pilots album that I listened to, which was recommended by my cousin’s friend’s daughter on a Minecraft realm, and I immediately fell in love with the band. Nine months later, I’m at their concert in Memphis, having the best of times. You can read about that here if you’d like 😀

Interlude: You can listen to my music here if you are a very nice person ;D

5. The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance – This album is phenomenal on almost every level for me. Not only did it produce some of the band’s biggest hits, but it pleased the fans, and that’s the important part. I’ll just be waiting here with my cake and balloons ready, in case they ever reunite.

4. Regional At Best by Twenty One Pilots – Regional At Best is one of Twenty One Pilots’s best albums, and I really think it’s a shame they stopped selling it. The album contains some great songs, and it’s pretty well structured as well, so any Twenty One Pilots fans who haven’t heard it yet should definitely turn it on in their Car Radio, but don’t get distracted, make sure your vision of the road is Clear, and if a song on the album doesn’t work, don’t Be Concerned, or you might crash into some Trees. Sorry.

Interlude: I’m down to the last 3 albums and I love them all so it will be difficult for me to place them above or below eachother.. but I have to.

3. Plastic Beach by Gorillaz – Plastic Beach is a journey, and it’s a story. I feel like unfortunately for the world, having a album that takes you somewhere and tells you a tale throughout multiple songs, yet still maintains it’s medium as music, is incredibly hard to achieve. But with Plastic Beach, Gorillaz did just that and more.

2. Vessel by Twenty One Pilots – Vessel doesn’t have a single song that I dislike at all on it. It is a seamless masterpiece in my eyes, and it outperforms almost every other album for me, except….

1. Demon Days by Gorillaz – I completely love this album in every way. It gave out most of Gorillaz’s best songs, is an absolute joy for me to listen to. I would list a few of my favorite songs from it, but truth be told, all of the songs are my favorite. I think that this is where Gorillaz previously shined their brightest, and I hope that they can match this with their future releases.

Bonus: Twenty One Pilots by Twenty One Pilots – Great album, but I couldn’t bear replace any of the items on this list, so it remains an afterthought turned bonus.

It does Feel Good (Inc) to write a post that takes more than a few minutes. If you made it all the way down to the bottom, tell me your favorite album right now if you have the time.

Free Lunch #15 (We Are Still Humanz Edition)

Hello there you spider veins.

Today is another Free Lunch. If you don’t know what that means, basically I say the exact same sentence similar to this at the start of the post about the rules and then I actually make the post.

If you really want to know, then comment 😀

Starting at 9:10.

Today was pretty awesome. I just had a Chai cup of tea, and I have listened to the new Gorillaz album three times. I know that might seem radical to a few of you out there, but if you have ever been a big fan of a band you will understand.

My favorite songs from the album are currently “She’s My Collar”, “Circle of Friendz”, “Momentz”, and “Busted and Blue”. Also, i’ve noticed a few irregularities in the songs that were previously released. In Ascension, the little synth space before Vince Staples starts rapping is extended, and in Andromeda, there seems to be an extra synthesizer layer with a different tune on top of the song I already knew.

Currently, the album certainly matches up to the previous one, only I’m really hoping in the future that 2D (Damon Albarn) will take a more leading role in singing like in previous albums. This one only had one song that was Gorillaz without any collaborators, and even though having guests is great, I like when it’s just Gorillaz more typically.

My five minutes are up, so good night and I hope you will listen to the album.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of the post :3. If you actually did, then comment “Murdoc is God”.

Song Challenge Day 5: Empire Ants by Gorillaz

Hello there you Sloppy Seconds. (Bonus!)

Today I have the fifth consecutive post in the Song Challenge, Empire Ants by Gorillaz.

Here’s the rules for the challenge:

  • Post a song a day for five consecutive days.
  • Post what the lyrics mean to you (optional).
  • Post the name of the song and video.
  • Nominate 1 or 2 bloggers each day of the challenge.

This song is just really calming and nice to listen to, and I recommend it if you like genre-blending music that still manages to be good.

Humanz Tracks Review by my Little Brother

Hello there you Busted and Blue Chargers that Feel Good enough to watch a Clint Eastwood movie even if your Rhinestone Eyes look Melancholy. Sorry.

Today, as I told you yesterday and as the title announces, my little brother will now review the currently released tracks from the new Gorillaz album.

*These opinions in no way reflect the thoughts of Rileys Backpack personnel, it’s affiliates, or parent companies.*

Starting off with Ascension, which is an explicit rap song. To get rid of the bad words and save his innocent ears, I covered the speaker on my phone during the curse words.

His rating was 6/10 Brend-o-points!

“I disliked that it had so many cuss words but I liked the beat.”

His rating was 4/10 Brendo-o-points.

“I did like the tempo, but I didn’t like how slow the lyrics were.”

Saturnz Barz

His rating was 4/10 Brendo-o-points.

“I didn’t like the autotune, however I did like the background music.”

We Got The Power

His rating was 5/10 Brendo-o-points.

“I liked the lyrics. I didn’t like how it didn’t seem to pop out. I also liked the positive message.”

Let Me Out

His rating was 7.5/10 Brendo-o-points.

“I liked the lyrics, and the tie-in to Trump and Obama. There wasn’t anything I really didn’t like about it though.”

Busted and Blue

His rating was 4.75/10 Brendo-o-points.

“I didn’t like the tempo or the sound or just the whole song in general.”

Even if his ratings conflict with mine (Busted and Blue, Andromeda, and We Got The Power were my three favorites, and got some of his lowest scores), I still respect his opinion! I encourage you to give all of these songs a listen if you have the time.

Free Lunch #14

TONIGHT WE HAVE THE FIRST EVER FREE LUNCH ON WEDNESDAY!!!! If you don’t know how this all works, I sit down for 5 minutes and try to not stop typing. Also the reason for not having as many words as someone normally could type in 5 minutes is that i’m on a phone, not a computer.

I’ll begin at 7:56.

Today was not amazing, but not horrible. We had our first of three Math final TCAP tests, along with our Science test, which is basically our final exams.

I breezed through the Math test because it’s one of my best subjects, but the Science one was difficult because I missed a chunk of material at the beginning of the year. There was also some things in there that we didn’t apparently have time to cover, even though my Science teacher is awesome.

In Clash Royale news, I got a Super Magical Chest yesterday, and when I opened it today, I got a second Inferno Dragon ;-;

For people who don’t play Clash Royale, it’s like having someone pass out chocolates, and you got the one with a bite taken out of it that smells strange.

Also, I have a special Gorillaz related treat coming tomorrow for you in collaboration with my little brother.

New Gorillaz Tracks!

Hello there you security blankets. Today Gotillaz released 4 new songs from their upcoming album, Humanz. Out of the four, my favorites are We Got The Power and Andromeda.

Warning, there is some pretty severe language in Ascension.

You can listen to all of them here.

I also think that the new Phase 4 designs for 2D, Noodle, Russell, and Murdoc look great!

The release date for Humanz is supposedly April 28th, 2017. I’m working on saving up money to pre-order the album!

Free Lunch #9

Hello there you prophets. Today I have one of the first Free Lunch’s since the revival that hasn’t been late! I’ll start typing at 10:36, and stop at 10:41.

Today has been good so far. This morning I had a Trumpet lesson, and Jamie was there too so we practiced Fly Me To The Moon on our instruments while the teacher played the piano for it. I can get through most of the song at the moment, but there are some difficult rhythms (at least for me). At the moment I’m listening to DARE by Gorillaz. I just finished a vocabulary test in English, and I managed to get both high scores for Gravity and Match for the end 😀

Even though I’m sure Victoria is plotting to steal my leaderboard position as I type this.

I caught a wild Magmar with 1000 something CP at the bus stop at the other day on Pokémon Go. Now Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey’s Head is on. That’s a good song with spoken word portions, so look it up if that interests you. There was an announcement that told all band students to go to the band room, and it was for a brief meeting, where my chess club instructor tried to recruit more members. I think we got like 3 or 4 new people out of an entire crowded room.

And it’s 10:41.
