What’s Cooking? #1 – Grilled Cheese with Lox

Hello there you wubbulous waffles. (standard apology for not posting in a while, blurb about not being inspired, blurb about forgetting to post).

You may have been wondering; what does this title mean? Luckily for you, I’m here to answer that question! What’s Cooking? is going to be a new series on the blog!

The basic premise is that I cook weird stuff, detail how I make it in a post, and review it at the end. I think this is going to be a really fun series for both of us. While I get some much-needed cooking experience, you would be able to whip up your own dish from the recipe if you think it looks good.

The typical outline for each of these posts is going to be Recipe, Final Product, Review.

I had the idea for the series while making a late-night grilled cheese sandwich, which I had the idea to put lox on. I had no idea how it would turn out, I just thought it would be fun to make and eat.

Here we go!

Ingredients: Two slices of white bread, Two slices of Havarti cheese, Mayonnaise, Lox, some Butter

Start by putting a little bit of butter on a pan and heating it up to about medium on the stovetop. While this is warming up, spread mayonnaise on both sides of both slices of bread, and nestle your cheese between the two. *you can choose to put the lox in here, I didn’t, but I think I should have* Then, put the sandwich on to the pan.

*sorry for low picture quality, I’ll have a steadier hand next time*

If the sandwich doesn’t sizzle immediately, don’t worry about it, mine took a minute to start grilling. Make sure you don’t burn either side, perfect turns to burnt way too quickly. This is when I put my lox into the sandwich, but I probably should have put it in before I started cooking for a better result.

I did a good job getting the sandwich just grilled enough, but I should have put the lox in with the cheese. Next time I definitely will see what it’s like. All in all, it didn’t turn out too terribly.

Final Product

The main reason I should’ve added the lox, in the beginning, is because it was still cold when I put it in afterward, even though it was inside all that gooey warm cheese. I had to microwave it for about 30 seconds to get it to a temperature that could keep up with the heat of the rest of the sandwich.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post, I hope you enjoyed the pilot post for this series.

Do you have any suggestions of food fusions or ways that I could have improved this one? Leave your feedback in the comments below! Let me know if any of you decide to cook this recipe!

Fast Food-Fav Fiv #2

Note:Special Announcement is Moved to Friday once and for all…. I promise. Stay tuned!

Its Wednesday my dudes. And you know what that means! Fav Fiv(or some number that is not Fiv).

Today I will resent my Favorite Five Fast Food (also alliteration is awesome ain’t it).

5. McDonald’s

Image result for mcdonaldsMcDonald’s is a classic, but as the MKTO song demonstrated, classic can be bad. Breakfast is their strong suit, and moving to all day breakfast is a move I approve of. But everything else, not good enough. Aside from desserts. Still, you would think their burgers would be decent by now. Nope! A solid meh.

4. Taco Bell

Image result for taco bell

Taco Bell is a restaurant which I ate a lot of when I played baseball out of town. I mean, A LOT. Basically every baseball game was preceded by a hard shell taco with pintos and cheese. Recently I’ve been more of a soft shell guy though, but I digress. Their food is healthier than most other fast food and actually tastes good. But why do you guys keep making up foods and adding ‘-rito’? I don’t think it helps, but whatever.

3. Subway

Image result for subway

Subway took a hit for me after being trashed-talked by the odd1sout a couple of times. While I really like his content and those videos are great, I still love Subway. The sandwiches taste good, they aren’t too expensive, and most importantly they are calorie heavy. My #1 cheat day food (and by cheat day I mean everyday).

Question for you reading this though:

Is Jersey Mikes fast food.?Because if it is it would replace subway in a heartbeat.

2. Sonic

Image result for sonicSonic was a toss up in my mind, because I really love the experience of ordering at and eating at Sonic. Also they serve one of my favorite foods (hot dogs) which is something not a lot of fast food vendors are doing. Also A+  shakes and Slushies. But it still loses out to number one.

1. Wendy’s

Image result for wendys

I recently have had a couple of Wendy’s meals and they are probably the best fast food chain burgers I have ever had. They have real burgers! Also nuggets and salads play a wonderful supporting role. And who can turn down a Frostie with Fries. But other than food, the drinks are great. The Wendy’s I have been to most frequently has a Coca-Cola freestyle machine, which is basically an endless fountain of wonder. So Wendy’s ranks highest!

Image result for coca cola freestyle

By the way, this is the stuff dreams are made of. So many different choices!

Do you agree with my ranking? Of course you do because it’s amazing. Dissenting opinions will be tolerated though, so leave them in the comments below.

Also, what should I Fav Fiv next? Again, comment! Here is the last Fav Fiv, and here’s to the next one.

Bye, and as I once said while watching a Sonic commercial:

Add some Sprite Cherry, Diet Coke Lime, Fanta Zero Peach, Diet Pineapple Ginger Ale, and you’ve got yourself the James Blonde Pukebuster Special!

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #30

Hello there you lighter fluids. I just walked out of a building and it feels like the temperature just went up 20 degrees. It’s Friday, or at least it is in my timezone, so that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! That means I type for 5 minutes without stopping.

Starting at 1:12.

Yesterday was not that great for me, but today is a little bit better so far. I’ve been “working” a story booth for my mom both days, so it’s been pretty interesting. Yesterday was a Farmers Market, and today is at a place called Casa Azafrán.

I’m thinking that I will tag this post with every attention-screaming tag I can think of just as an experiment.

Such tags include: Writing, Poetry, Beauty, Books, Poem, Poems. You know. The usuals ssc.

On that ssc, I need to tell you what that means. Due to me being sick of typing lol and not laughing, I invented ssc!

ssc stands for silently smiles cooly. It’s much better than lol in every way.

I’m sorry that this post was quite short but I was kinds busy while writing it out on my phone.

Thanks for reading anyways.

Sonnet and serious stuff LAY #2

And by serious stuff I mean chocolate

Hi I’m Jamesblonde123, a horribly inactive author who still posts more than Maz.

Welcome back to life and you, where I talk about my life and talk to you!

*This is a really long post.*

Today I will be talking about one of the best things on earth. Chocolate.

So much sad stuff is in the news lately. Donald Trump, the tragic passing of Andy Marte, Donald Trump…

So I thought I’d lighten up the mood and talk about (among other things) chocolate.

*Originally I was going to make this episode a comparison about price for quantity of chocolate but realized I don’t have the budget to buy chocolate*

But because I want to keep you reading, you have to wait until the end of the post.

Or scroll down I guess… *face palm*

So first I want to bring up a little UPDATE/SELF PROMO for my new podcast with my brother (The Nerd and his Brother)

We are still set to roll out on Feb 17 on Blubrry. Our website is experiencing some technical delays

Image result for technical error

But will hopefully be out before the 17th.

We are working really hard to get this right so I hope that you enjoy!

Even if you don’t read my posts and read Riley’s, he will be a recurring guest so listen for that if nothing else.

Next up I want to share that I just got a Pichu in Pokemon Go! For the dozen of you still playing, you know how cool and rare that is. But for all of you who don’t, lemme break it down.

They just added baby pokemon in Pokemon Go. Pichu is the baby version of Pikachu, and he is SUPER rare. But I found in an egg and I was so excited.

And now we talk about a great new game that my friends made.

It’s called Lunch Special. It is a wheel that you spin at lunch with your friends. Whatever it lands on, you do. It could land on an accent challenge, personality switch, or a good old truth or dare.

It is just in beta testing, but we will have it out to the general market soon!

Lol Just Kidding for those of you who don’t get sarcasm.

But yeah credit to Simone, Victoria, and Jordan for creating it.

Moving On!

We have these annoying things at school now called restorative circles. Basically you pass around a ‘talking stick’ and answer stupid questions from the teacher. It takes up class so we get behind and have to do the circle in the first place. We talk about ‘talking from your heart’ and ‘listening from your heart’. Riley wrote a post about it but it is just SO BAD!

And now a word from our sponsors

Have you ever felt like your socks are to solid? Well now there is a solution! Air Socks! The socks that are made of air! Simply take of your socks and the hyrolithic algorithms in our technology will automatically put your air-socks on. It’s like you’re not wearing socks, because you aren’t. But you still get to pay for them! Air-socks, preorder nowhere today.

Lol Just Kidding for those of you who don’t get sarcasm.

So now for the cool stuff.

Today it is this:

Avengers-Inside-Out by CuddleswithCats

I just love that there are enough people in the world that awesome stuff like this happens.

And for my penultimate trick, I will talk about chocolate.

Most people love chocolate. But I want to know which people prefer.

I like dark chocolate myself, but some like milk, semisweet, or even *shudders* white chocolate.

Or you could like a particular candy, or type of candy (Peanut Butter M&M’s).

What ever it is I’d love to know which is a favorite, and I will make a dish on my other blog Cooking with Jamie on the one that gets the most votes.

So comment your favorite type of chocolate!

So now as promised a sonnet I wrote. It is basically a complicated love poem, and this one is from mickey mouse to minnie mouse. I hope you like it.

Minnie, I love you as any mouse loves cheese

Like the taste that always fills me with joy

You are as nice as a warm summer’s breeze

And a beauty that makes me say “Oh boy!”

You make our lives so complete with your smile

Lighting up even the darkest of days

And making me sing “Hot Dog” for a while

Your kind patience never fails to amaze

Donald, and Daisy and Goofy are fine

But even they cannot compare to you

Because you are the one that I call mine

The one who cheers me up when I am blue

You are without a doubt a swell, fine mouse
And an amazing part of our clubhouse

So that’s the post. If you want to be in the next LAY write your question in the comments!

Also thanks to Victoria for joining the blog. She has posted twice already and they are great. So go check her posts out here.

Thanks for reading and as I always say:

A day in the life doesn’t really create enough pizza for a party of 5

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #5

Hello there, you. Today I have a new episode of Free Lunch (finally). Since it was voted to be re-birthed into the series cycle by you guys, it will go back to being posted every Friday.

I’m starting at 10:15.

Brendan is being an annoying little bother as usual. Um lemme think.. We originally had school today but the secretary turned us away at the door and told us if we wanted to get back in the car and go home we could because it’s snowing really hard. So me and Jamie ran back to his mom’s car and we drove to his house, where a few minutes later I was picked up by my mom. I don’t have very much else to talk about.. I just ate a pumpkin muffin with a little butter inside, and it was very good. Brendan and Saoirse turned on an Adventure Time DVD, where a deer is now attacking a bunny on a radio show. It’s still snowing and it’s 10:20 so i’m stopping now.

Ramen Noodles and Kubo

HELLO YA PEOPLE READING ME, today we have a life post, which we haven’t had in far too long. I’m about to leave Oak Ridge as I type this, but I figured I would have enough time and WiFi to get it out. The other day, I tried Ramen Noodles for the first time, and now I’m in love with ’em. I drank most of the broth last night :O. Yes, I know they are really bad for you, but I’m assuming that I’ll probably never get to have them outside of Oak Ridge because we’ve never eaten them at my house. Who knows, maybe i’ll start a Ramen Noodle trend in Nashville :D.

Also, we went to see Kubo and The Two Strings last night, which was reallllllllllllllllllllllly good. Basically, it’s a movie about a kid who can play his strings instrument and turn normal origami alive! He has to go on some quests and stuff, there are sad parts, and it got a NINETY-SIX percent on Rotten Tomatoes.. How does that even happen?? I would call hacks, but it’s such a good movie that I actually believe it got that review legitimately.

In Fallen Human news, I got really stuck, trying to figure out how to make the King stop his attacks once you die, so you don’t just respawn and he’s still shooting stuff at you. If it was that way, it wouldn’t matter whether or not you died, the attacks would just continue and he would lose without you having to do anything but die. Graystalk, a fellow planet-minecrafter, helped me find a some commands that would work for my situation. So all’s good there.

Sanstale is tearing out my eyes.

That’s about all that’s happening to me right now, what about you?

Contest Voting

Hello ya people, today I’m gonna be giving you some options on who to vote for in our Contest. Since OY30, Baggie, and multiple others either deliberately ignored me, or forgot about it, we only have 3 entrees :(.

Chipchomps Entree

Saoirses Entree

So yea vote in the comments since I can’t figure out for the life of me how to get a poll into a post using my phone. If you like this I EXPECT YOU TO VOTE.

Food Art Contest

Hello you people, today, (hopefully) you will be competing against your fellow bloggers in a frenzy of rooting through kitchen drawers, or running to grab your art kit.

For the first time in a very, very long time, we will be having a contest.

The competition is split into two art-forms. Both are judged in the same poll tho, so try your hardest.

Category 1: Draw a food character to represent yourself, post it, and then just send me a link to the post in the comments.

Category 2: Go to your kitchen to find some kinda food you can take, grab a sharpie, and doodle on eyes and a mouth. Once you’ve done that, again, just post it and comment below the link to such post.

Now, I know it’s difficult to get people to try, so, in the

light of the recent award fad.. I nominate:

And anyone else who wants to do this lol, i’m not restricting anyone who is not on the list from doing it, but those are just the people who have to do it 🙂

The Knoxville Zoo

And here we have the worst drawn lion of all time.

So today, me and my dad went to the Knoxville Zoo, which, duh, is in Knoxville. So the first thing you notice when you walk in is that the newest exhibit is still under construction, and it’s a massive lot with construction people running about and cranes and stuff. But they had it fenced in so nobody could be silly and walk in and get hurt. First off we saw the black bear exhibit, but the Bears were doing the smart thing, and lying in the shade away from the hot sun. They weren’t really doing much. But there was one in a tree who was laying on a branch who was just kinda staring at me.

Next up was the red pandas, who were also hiding, but there was one who walked into the indoor habitat and was walking around staring at the window. At this point a huge group of kids who must’ve been like 9-10 years old who must’ve been on  been on a field trip came and were really loud. So me and my dad walked on and got to the river otters, which was my favorite exhibit in the whole zoo. They flipped and danced and got up against the glass. Unfortunately, the group of kids on the field trip got to the window before I did so I had to wait a while in the really hot sun leaning on a really hot rock. Luckily they left and went to the playground so I got to talk to the otters and they did really cool tricks.

After that we went to the parrots, who were very friendly, then we saw a TON of other animals, and it would steal the attention of you all if I wrote them all down. Overview of them: lots of animals LOTS OF ANIMALS, there were tigers and elephants and peacocks and wolves. But the one that caught my attention was the Gorilla area, where they built a couple rooms for the gorillas, along with a bunch of climbing stuff hanging from the walls and ceilings. There were two baby gorillas who were really cute because one was trying to climb on a low branch thingy, and the other went to the other part of the room and ran up to the one who was pulling itself up and waved it’s hands around so the one climbing got frightened and flipped around the branch instead of getting on top of it.

I felt a little bit sad for all the animals because they were trapped in there with no room to explore and all thier actions closely monitored. But there’s really nothing you can do to help them other than NOT TAP THE GLASS. Like stupid Dudley did.

There was a zoo train, which I didn’t ride cause it was made of plastic and again, it was super hot. Near the end I got really hungry so I walked a bit faster towards the exit.

After we left, we went to Jersey Mikes, which is a much better sandwich shop than Subway. I got a club sub with no mayo which was delicious. And then I went home.

(For anyone who noticed that it says today and dinner and stuff, but it’s like 11 in the morning right now it’s because I wrote this post yesterday night but I didn’t have enough time to make the picture so So I just put it off until today.)
